Mark Farina: oil paintings

While Mark Farina travels around northern California with paint and easel, his primary subject matter is the Monterey Bay area. An unmistakable expertise with color, composition and rendering evidence not only Mark's experience and devotion to his art but his love of the land as well.

We proudly featured Mark’s work in our fall 2009 show, "A Heaven in the Eye: Seven Painters of the Northern California Landscape."

About Mark Farina

Mark Farina portrait

“I grew up in upstate New York, spending summers in the Adirondacks where my father was a club golf professional. Aspiring to play professional golf, I attended Florida State University on a partial golf scholarship. I also liked to draw and was encouraged enough to major in art and art history. I spent six fantastic months in Florence, Italy, studying art history my last semester of college.

“I eventually settled down in California on the Monterey Peninsula, famous for its golf courses (Pebble Beach) and art community (Carmel-By The-Sea), and have resided here for the past two decades. I worked as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer up until the early 90's, when I transitioned to painting full-time and teaching art part-time.

“I enjoy the challenge of painting a variety of subject matter: landscapes and seascapes, architecture, still-life and the figure. But being an outdoor person, painting en plein air suits me to a tee.

"I enter and have won awards in numerous national art shows, and plein air events. I'm a member of the historic Carmel Art Association (estab.1927), Artist member - California Art Club, Artist Member of the Academic Artist Association and a Signature Member of Watercolor West.”
